A plethora of creative suggestions

We are grateful for the numerous submissions we received by post and email for our mascot competition. We received over 600 drawings and handicrafts. From pandas, unicorns, robots, squirrels to sporty mythical creatures, everything was represented.

We were looking for the best idea

From all submitted proposals, the best entries were shortlisted. With the help of our knowledgeable jury, we decided which of these artworks would be crowned the winner and turned into the official mascot of Munich 2022.

From reporters and top athletes to the designer of Waldi, the mascot of the 1972 Summer Olympics - our jury combines a wealth of expertise. Meet the members!

"To live up to our slogan 'Back to the Roofs', we had to come up with something special for our mascot. Creating enthusiasm and empathy is an ability that comes naturally to children – that is how the idea of the mascot competition came about. I am very happy to be part of the decision-making process as a jury member and I am not only curious about all the creative suggestions, but also about who will succeed the great Otl Aicher."

... Gfreidi! Our jury was spoilt for choice, but ultimately chose a sporty squirrel with a traditional Bavarian hat. Congratulations to Stephanie from Nuremberg, who sent in this suggestion and had the privilege to be among the first to meet our mascot for Munich 2022. The cheeky squirrel cannot wait to welcome many more guests to Munich!
