Founded in 1995, the band is now one of the most successful punk bands in Germany. The founding members knew each other from school, so founding the band was passion project driven by ideals. Paul Jets, a band from Vienna with a sound that moves between new wave, indie rock and new German wave, will also perform. Nobody will stand still until then!&nbsp;

They have won the last four consecutive CEV BeachVolley Championships.Munich 2022 will be the biggest multisport event in Germany since 1972, hosting nine European Championships concurrently. “It’s like the Mini-Olympics,” explains Mol. The first European Championships in Glasgow and Berlin in 2018 hadn’t included beach volleyball. Making its inaugural appearance even more special to the Norwegian pair.

The beach volleyball games will take place at Königsplatz alongside sport climbing. Sørum appreciates the chance to watch the growing sport live. “It’s really cool and a great idea to do it like this. So, we can watch each other.” Mol agrees: “That’s a great set up.”Their focus will remain in the sand, however. “We love beach volleyball. We love to play, and we love this lifestyle,” manifests Mol. But that isn’t their only driving force for the younger of the two and his partner in crime. “We can improve a lot even though we are so achieved already.” Olympic Champions. Four consecutive European Championship titles. Freshly crowned world champions. Nevertheless, the Norwegian pair is far from done.

Weaknesses and dear favourites

Even they have weaknesses. “Christian’s hand setting is one thing.” Sørum knows it himself: “It will show up one day and be amazing.” Both laugh sheepishly. “We’ll see. But, thinking about beach volleyball, the game is always improving. And you always have to find a way to beat a different team and find the right timing of doing the skills.”Though most of the time you don’t get to choose the skill you need to use for a play everyone has a favourite. “I have to admit I love blocking, of course. I love stopping the opponent,” says Mol. And he’s objectively phenomenal at it, having won the FIVB award for Best Blocker for 2018/19. Though Mol is most proud of being crowned Best Team in Norway twice with Christian. And winning the Most Outstanding Player Award of the league, which is voted for by athletes, coaches and referees. As they know the sport best this award is his most prized.“And I love players that hit hard, because I can really be part of the game.” Playing against opponents, who prefer finesse shots is a true annoyance. “That’s when Christian has to work, and I don’t think he likes it either.” Sørum goes along with the theory: “Then I have to work for first balls and make sure they don’t do it again. And then I put the work on Anders.”

Sørum is elated about the multisport event in Europe. “I’ve really been jealous of the Commonwealth Games; they have this big event together and it looks huge. So, it’s really cool that we European countries can have something like this.” Nine European Championships over a span of eleven days, including a festival of surprises, which Sørum inquired about.He is excited for “The Roofs” and asked for more information on it during our interview. Mol just laughed, knowing his colleague all too well, and hoping he'll focus on the sport.

Both hope to watch other sports as well. “We have a lot of good rowers and Karsten Warholm and Jacob Ingebrigsten in athletics,” says Mol. Sorum used to do athletics himself. Mol continues his thought. “We would like to cheer for our fellow Norwegians.” “And table tennis is really cool, I’ve always wanted to see [that].”And maybe they’ll have time to ask the long jumpers how they deal with all the sand. “The sand is everywhere,” Mol confirms.

“We washed the floor here [at apartment during trainings camp] like two days ago, and it is a massive chunk of sand. I can’t even imagine how it got here.”The problem isn’t new. “And there is so much sand in our luggage. In my luggage, that I brought everywhere, there is probably sand from Brazil, China, Tenerife, all the places we have been.”Sørum can't even rid himself of the grains. “And the sand is really sticky, you shower two times, and you still have sand in your hair. You have to get used to it.” One thing they’re not willing to get used to is defeat. Mol notes: “We still hate loosing.”

EYES ON THE PRIZE

Norway’s one-time wonderkid Jakob Ingebrigtsen will tackle stage one of his bid to do the distance running double-double when he races for gold in the men’s 5000m on <a href="https://results.mun.mev.atos.net/ECM2022/en/results/athletics/daily-schedule-date=2022-08-16.htm" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">day two of athletics</a> at Olympiadstadion on Tuesday.Ingebrigtsen arrived in Berlin four years ago for the 2018 European Athletics Championships as a promising 17-year-old and left as a new-born star of world athletics having front-run his way to the men’s 1500m and 5000m titles.Four years on, Ingebrigtsen is no longer a teenager, and no longer unknown, having won the Olympic 1500m title in Tokyo 12 months ago and the world 5000m crown in Oregon just last month.

AS CLASSIC AS IT GETS

The last day of <a href="https://results.mun.mev.atos.net/ECM2022/en/results/cycling-track/daily-schedule-date=2022-08-14.htm" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">track cycling</a> at the European Championships Munich 2022 is reserved for events that are as classic as they are spectacular: Madison and Keirin. Both events will be held for both genders at Messe München of Tuesday.The Madison is an endurance relay event in which a two-men team swaps turns in the race swinging each other in the track with manual change-over. THE TEAM TO BEAT

As the <a href="https://results.mun.mev.atos.net/ECM2022/en/results/table-tennis/daily-schedule-date=2022-08-16.htm" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">men’s and women’s doubles round of 32</a> starts on Tuesday, the big names enter the competition. For world champions Kristian Karlsson (SWE) and Mattias Falck (SWE) the aim of the tournament is clear, having lost European championships finals in 2012 and 2018."Mattias and I want a European championships gold medal. We’ve got two silvers, it would’ve been nice with a gold too,” Karlsson said.The pair, who claimed gold at the 2021 World Table Tennis Championships in Houston, United States, are ranked No. 2 in the world and top-seeded at the European Championships Munich 2022. Published on 15 August 2022&nbsp;On day 5 of the European Championships Munich 2022 a total of 14 sets of medals were awarded, with the crowds flocking to the venues to cheer on the new European champions. The fans were in for a treat and spoilt for choice, as athletics and beach volleyball got their competitions underway on Monday.&nbsp;

7 DOWN, 43 TO GO

Athletics

Out of the nine sports featured at Munich 2022 the most titles will be awarded in athletics. A total of 50 gold medals are up for grabs, with the first seven snapped up on the <a href="https://results.mun.mev.atos.net/ECM2022/en/results/athletics/daily-schedule-date=2022-08-15.htm" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">first day of athletics</a> events.&nbsp;&nbsp;The marathon decisions were up first, with 110,000 spectators scattered along the course through Munich’s city centre. The local fans were not left disappointed.&nbsp;Richard Ringer (GER) produced a stunning finish to snatch men’s marathon gold in the final few strides ahead of Maru Teferi, who had looked set to claim the crown for Israel with less than 50 metres to go.&nbsp;“Every marathon is a surprise, now I am the champion of Europe,“ said the 33-year-old of his first ever title. “I started as a 5k runner, this is why I finished strong.&nbsp;“The people around me, my friends, they gave me wings today,“ he added. ”When I ran, I remembered all the nice guys in my life. FYLING UP THE WALL

Danyil Boldyrev (UKR) and Aleksandra Mirosław (POL) showed that when it comes to <a href="https://results.mun.mev.atos.net/ECM2022/en/results/sport-climbing/daily-schedule-date=2022-08-15.htm" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">speed climbing</a>, they are uncatchable, as they won men’s and women’s speed gold at Königsplatz on Monday.&nbsp;For both athletes it is their second European gold medals. Boldyrev retains the gold he won in 2020, while Mirosław returns to the summit of European speed climbing for the first time since winning gold at Edinburgh 2019.&nbsp;“This morning I woke up at 5 o'clock,” Boldyrev said. “I wasn't nervous, I just woke up because I felt so ready.&nbsp;"I took about five cold showers today before competition. I was like 'come on, you can do it, you need focus for your good rounds and your gold medal'. Emmanuel Lebesson (FRA) and Jianan Yuan (FRA) won the first <a href="https://results.mun.mev.atos.net/ECM2022/en/results/table-tennis/daily-schedule-date=2022-08-15.htm" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">table tennis</a> gold medal of the European Championships Munich 2022, beating Ovidiu Ionescu (ROU) and Bernadette Szőcs (ROU) 3-1 in the mixed doubles final on Monday.&nbsp;The Romanian pair won the first game before top-seeded Lebesson and Yuan got into their rhythm, taking three straight games.&nbsp;"This is an amazing feeling now. OK, we start as No.1 (seed) but you cannot expect to catch the title. I don’t believe that we won. Maybe I will need some days,” the 2016 European singles champion Lebesson said.&nbsp;"It was the first big title for us. We caught a WTT (World Table Tennis Contender in Tunis, Tunisia 2021) and finished fourth in the (Tokyo 2020) Olympic Games last year, but to catch one European title, it’s amazing. Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann (GER) gave the Königsplatz centre court plenty to cheer when they won the opening match of the <a href="https://results.mun.mev.atos.net/ECM2022/en/results/beach-volleyball/daily-schedule-date=2022-08-15.htm" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">2022 CEV EuroBeachVolley</a> on Monday.&nbsp;&nbsp;The Germans impressed with their play to delight the crowd who had come out en masse for the first night of beach volleyball at the European Championships Munich 2022.&nbsp;&nbsp;The duo eventually ran away to a 2-0 (21-14, 21-15) victory over France's Clémence Vieira and Aline Chamereau.&nbsp;“In beach volleyball it can be easy to lose a few balls and then lose the whole thing,” Tillmann said. “You can't be sure, even if you're leading by a few points.&nbsp;&nbsp;“It can be so easy to switch from winning to losing, so it doesn't matter how many points we have, we're always trying to give our best and to play the next ball as well as we can.”&nbsp;Find out what else the first day of beach volleyball had on offer <a href="https://assets.munich2022.com/default/0001/05/69d2aaacd49c4836b401d9aa7b37ba45209d8d23.pdf" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">here</a>.&nbsp;

HAT-TRICK FOR HINZE

Track Cycling

Emma Hinze completed a hat-trick of three European <a href="https://results.mun.mev.atos.net/ECM2022/en/results/cycling-track/daily-schedule-date=2022-08-15.htm" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">track cycling</a> titles on the boards, beating Mathilde Gros (FRA) in a photo-finish third heat to take gold in the women’s sprint. It was another rollercoaster day at Messe München, as the action had to be paused for half an hour because of a major crash in the women’s omnium.&nbsp;Hinze had not really expected to win, because she had been sick all day. She explained: “I threw up so much that I really had the feeling there was something wrong with my stomach. I couldn’t eat, did not have any power, and have just eaten gels all the time, but those came out immediately as well. I thought I did not have enough power, but in the end it somehow worked out.”&nbsp;With the team sprint (Friday) and 500m time trial (Sunday) titles already in her pocket, and despite the sickness, Hinze was still eager to add the still lacking European title in the individual sprint to her impressive prize cabinet. Munich-based Miriam Fendt, who is behind DJ Miroslove, has made it her mission not to play the male bands from the noughties but to make her music selection more diverse. It's going to be electro-pop with Mola - behind it is singer Isabella Streifeneder and her Munich band. So you can expect another evening of dancing the night away - and it's completely free of charge.&nbsp;

There will be a new king and queen crowned in the mixed doubles, as Munich 2022 <a href="https://results.mun.mev.atos.net/ECM2022/en/results/table-tennis/daily-schedule-date=2022-08-15.htm" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">table tennis</a> action resumes in Rudi-Sedlmayer-Halle on Monday.Robert Gardos (AUT) and Sofia Polcanova (AUT) had dethrowned the defending champions Dang Qiu (GER) and Nina Mittelham (GER) and are looking to end their campaign with medals around their necks.They will go up against Ovidiu Ionescu (ROU) and Bernadette Szőcs (ROU). After early exits in the past two European championships, Ionescu hopes that this is the year that they will go all the way."Last year we lost against the Germans who became European champions, and four years ago, (they lost) also against the Germans, (and) they became European champions,” he said."I know that we are capable of winning the gold medal and to fight for the podium. It’s time for the all-rounders to line up on the boards of Messe München for the men’s and women’s omnium on Monday. Elisabeth Seitz (28) and Emma Malewski (18) treated host country Germany to a big surprise as they clinched European Championships gold medals on <a href="https://results.mun.mev.atos.net/ECM2022/en/results/artistic-gymnastics/daily-schedule-date=2022-08-14.htm" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">uneven bars and balance beam</a>, respectively.&nbsp;&nbsp;Seitz triumphed on the uneven bars where she claimed her first-ever European title when she beat Italy’s Alice D’Amato and Lorette Charpy of France. “I can’t tell you how it feels. It’s a dream coming true after so many years,” Seitz, who previously won world bronze (2018) and a European silver (2017) on the apparatus, said.&nbsp;&nbsp;"I've been in the national team since 2009. To now be a European champion for the first time is kind of crazy. I think I still need to realise that this really happened, that I am a European champion now.”&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;“As soon as I finished my routine I was completely overwhelmed. My whole body was shaking because the whole arena was shaking,” she laughed.&nbsp;&nbsp;Seitz’ teammate Malewski, who only made her European senior debut a year ago, added to the German party with a surprising gold on balance beam. “I feel amazing,” Malewski said. “With the team we got a medal (bronze) yesterday and now Elisabeth and I got a medal as well. It was supposed to be a fairytale end to the <a href="https://results.mun.mev.atos.net/ECM2022/en/results/rowing/daily-schedule-date=2022-08-14.htm" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">European Rowing Championships</a> – how a young man who took up rowing in Munich went on to scoop gold, following in the wake of his grandfather at the 1972 Olympic Games.&nbsp;In the end, Oliver Zeidler’s (GER) dreams of standing on top of the podium at the Olympic Regatta Centre ended with him slumped over his oars, exhausted after a furious 2,000m battle with some of the world’s best scullers that left him in fourth place.&nbsp;“I just wanted to have a good race here, and to give my best, and I did. In the end I'm a bit disappointed that I couldn't win a medal here, but that's sport. Sometimes others are better,” he said.&nbsp;Melvin Twellaar (NED) ultimately triumphed in the men’s single sculls, matching the achievement of his teammate Karolin Florijn (NED) who had won the women’s single half an hour earlier.&nbsp;The ultimate day at the rowing regatta saw 23 sets of medals handed out, with Great Britain topping the rowing medals table at Munich 2022. France have comprehensively defended their <a href="https://results.mun.mev.atos.net/ECM2022/en/results/triathlon/daily-schedule-date=2022-08-14.htm" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">triathlon elite mixed relay gold</a> in near-perfect conditions in Munich’s Olympiapark on Sunday evening.&nbsp;The dominant French finished 33 seconds ahead of Germany who broke free from Switzerland on leg D following a tense battle that already began to take shape on leg B.&nbsp;&nbsp;The French team, made up of the 2018 gold medal returning pair of Dorian Coninx and Cassandre Beaugrand were joined by Emma Lombardi and Léo Bergere to drive France to an impressive fifth triathlon medal at these Europe Triathlon Championships. The Netherlands’ Fabio Jakobsen prevailed in a photo finish on Munich’s Odeonplatz to claim gold in the <a href="https://results.mun.mev.atos.net/ECM2022/en/results/cycling-track/daily-schedule-date=2022-08-14.htm" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">men’s cycling road race</a> in blistering heat on Sunday afternoon.&nbsp;The Dutchman outlasted France’s Arnaud Démare who repeated his silver medal of two years ago in Plouay, France whilst Belgium’s Tim Merlier finished third. It marks the Netherlands’ first European gold in the elite men’s road race of the modern era.&nbsp;The 209.4km route from Murnau a. Staffelsee all the way to the heart of Munich was set to favour sprinters. Jakobsen profited from the work of his fellow countryman Danny van Poppel to get into the gold medal position.&nbsp;&nbsp;“My team made a good plan and put in a huge effort to get me into a good position. Lotte Kopecky was queen of the velodrome on Sunday. Sunday’s action at the European Table Tennis Championships saw the mixed doubles field reduced to four pairs, whilst the singles events also got underway at Rudi-Sedlmayer-Halle.&nbsp;Defending mixed doubles champions Dang Qui (GER) and Nina Mittelham (GER) crashed out of the tournament as Austria’s Sofia Polcanova (AUT) and Robert Gardos (AUT) showed they are keen to take over the title.&nbsp;In their first major tournament together, Polcanova and Gardos beat Simon Gauzy (FRA) and Prithika Pavade (FRA) in the quarterfinal to secure a spot in the top four.&nbsp;

Class of 22 athlete Oliver Zeidler (GER) will seek to put a golden end to the <a href="https://results.mun.mev.atos.net/ECM2022/en/results/rowing/daily-schedule-date=2022-08-14.htm" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">European Rowing Championships</a> on Sunday, with his final in the men’s single sculls the last race off.Zeidler won both his heat and his semifinal and looks like a strong favourite for gold – although he faces stiff opposition from Graeme Thomas (GBR), Olympic champion Stefanos Ntouskos (GRE) and the impressive Melvin Twellaar (NED).If Zeidler can seal victory, he will emulate the achievements of his grandfather Hans-Johann Färber, who won Olympic gold in the men’s coxed four in 1972.“Fifty years after the Olympics, it's a circle that has closed and it's very emotional for me of course as my grandfather won gold here, the biggest success of his career on the same course,” Zeidler said earlier in the regatta.
