The official opening of the European Championships Munich 2022 will take place in Olympiapark on 10 August 2022, ringing in and raising the excitement for 11 action-packed days of sports and festival. The programme is based on the organisers’ overall vision of creating a unique event experience for everybody, providing memorable moments of happiness.

The schedule as well as details on the featured athletes, guests and show acts will be communicated in due course.

During the Opening Ceremony at Central Roof on 10 August, photographers will have the opportunity to take pictures of the different acts and show elements.

Special photo positions will be established for that event in front of the Central Stage on Olympiasee.

Please note that specific regulations and restrictions will apply for the concerts during the opening and The Roofs Festival. They will be published at a later stage on the media website.

Opening Press Conference

  • Date: 10 August
  • Time: 16:00 – 18:00
  • Location: Munich Olympiapark (weather-dependent, either Heimat Roof (Olympiaberg) or Main Media Centre (kleine Olympiahalle))

The press conference will be divided into two parts.

First part (in German):

  • Start: 16:00
  • Duration: 30-45min (excluding direct questions afterwards)
  • Moderation: Markus Othmer
  • Participants: Nancy Faeser (Federal Minister of the Interior and Community), Markus Söder (Minister President of the Free State of Bavaria) or Joachim Herrmann (State Minister of the Interior, for Sport and Integration), Dieter Reiter (Mayor of Munich) and Marion Schöne (Managing Director Olympiapark Munich), a female and a male athlete (to be announced)

Second part (in English):

  • Start: 17:00
  • Duration: 30-45min (excluding direct questions afterwards)
  • Moderation: Markus Othmer
  • Participants: Representatives of the nine European sports federations and representatives of the umbrella organisation ECM (European Championship Management)
