Welcome to Munich

We let Munich bloom!

The time will soon come for hundreds of thousands of people from a wide range of cultural backgrounds to arrive in Munich for the European Championships Munich 2022. As a part of the tenth Count & Last Project, we are preparing for the big multisport event by welcoming visitors to Munich in a variety of languages. For each video submitted, a flower was planted in Munich’s Olympiapark. The project picks up on the local wild herbaceous planting of 1972, allows a new flowerbed to blossom by the start of Munich 2022 and at the same time sets the foundation for the Champions Garden. The welcome video will be shown during the opening ceremony and throughout the event in Olympiapark, afterwards being reused by Munich Tourism.

We want to capture the diversity of our visitors through a welcome video. Like the YFL participants, become a part of the video by uploading a personal Welcome message under the following button.

Please keep the following points in mind for your video:

  • Let yourself be filmed in landscape mode in front of a monochrome wall.
  • Make sure that you can be seen in the centre of the picture.
  • Record “Welcome to Munich” in your native language!

All submitted videos will be packaged into one video. A highlight clip will also be published during the event on the Munich 2022 social media pages, well as on the Munich 2022 website.

Welcome videos are our goal

Munich 2022 Champions Garden

For every welcome message sent in the flower Mädesüß (filipendula ulmaria) was planted as a foundation stone for the Champions Garden in the Olympiapark. We collected 222 welcome messages and planted the corresponding flowers by the end of June, so that by August, the plants will be in full bloom for the European Championships Munich 2022.

All medal winners will also receive a potted flower (buphthalmum salicifolium) at their award ceremony. With this, they can immortalise themselves in the Munich 2022 Champions Garden.

With this project, we leave behind a blooming splendour for even after the European Championships, and thus transform lawns into a food source for bees and butterflies. Many thanks to SMW München, who will be caring for the Champions Garden.
